The brainchild of the late William Chesser, The Chesser Gallery has been on the Mobile arts scene for the past four years - first under William’s tutelage and lately under the direction of Vikki Turner Finch, William’s curator and friend. Originally created as a “hothouse” to showcase and nurture the tender talents of Mobile’s emerging artists, the Chesser also features the work of some of Gulfcoastia’s most distinctive established artists. The Chesser opened with a bang in 2003 with its first show “Fusion” and has continued to cement its reputation as an energetic space with a heart for art with such shows as ‘Dog Days”, “Beauty Mark”, “The Transparent Body”, “Hoodoo Voodoo”, “Rising Spirits” and its current exhibition “Free Knowledge”. Located in LODA - the heart of downtown Mobile’s arts District, the Chesser is poised to continue its mission of encouraging and supporting artists of the urban South.
